This Fundraising Project has ended and partnerships were developed! The fundraiser helped La Termitiere in its participation in this year's FESPACO (Feb 2013). This is a large cultural performance summit focused mainly on film and Television that is open to the international community.

Additional workshops to come!

ICCV NAZEMCE

The focus of this fundraiser is on the library portion of ICCV.  They are looking for books by African authors, preferably in French as Burkina is a francophone nation.  Because these novels by local authors are too expensive for the general community to purchase, ICCV requests assistance in accessing them.  AHIE wishes to raise $1000 for this project.  The $1000 will be used by AHIE to purhcase the books on site and donate them to ICCV's libraries.  Donators are welcome to mail in books in French by African authors to the AHIE address, but the cost of mailing them to Africa may limit the fundraising potential.

Support for ICCV continues as they open new community libraries and provide cultural and creative opportunities for marginalized students across the kadiogo province in Burkina-Faso.

We have completed this fundraising project and were able to raise $925.00!  Thank you to all contributors (07/2012).

Besides completing its own projects, AHIE collaborates with small NGOs and/or institutions by working closely with their directors and representatives, and by lending a helping hand in education related fundraising needs.  The institutions listed below are legitimate organizations that AHIE is or has worked with that would appreciate support at this time.

History of PROJECTS

CAREER WORKSHOPS

AHIE has completed an initial round of Career Mentorship and Resume Writing workshops within the North County Community (Fall 2013). These workshops were geared toward young adults soon to enter or who have recently entered the worksplace and were taught success skills, interview tips, career evaluation based on local area profiles and a personal skills & career profile, resume writing, etc.

CDC LA TERMITIERE

CDC La Termitiere is a vocational dance institution in Ouagadougou Burkina-Faso.  Though the company, run by Seydou Boro (dancer and actor) makes workshops and training available to the general public, it specializes in training homeless youth that would otherwise not have a means to pay for an education program that would eventually lead them to be a contributing member of their community. The company hosts performances on site and invites performers from around the world to help engage its students in various forms of contemporary dance.

XHEWE-VIM

Poetry, music, jewelry and simply a form of expression! This is where two sisters decide to join their love for the arts and give life a chance. Xhewe-Vim or again 'chance and life' is the name chosen by the two multicultural sisters for their work. Life remains an exercise of hope and a journey for each.

THE GIFT OF BOOKS & READING

Led by the School of Leadership, Education at USD and Edify (a CA NGO), and Sinapi Aba Trust (SAT), a group of graduate students researched within low-cost schools in Ghana.  After an initial visit in January, team members returned in June-July to continue their work.

Resources in the form of school supplies and reading materials (children's books and novels) are sorely needed in these schools and as such, Ms. Miranda & Ms. Darden set forth to fundraise.  A goal of $1000 was set and four schools were selected as the recepients of the supplies.

MORE TO COME...

Literacy Program:  The Education Plan and timeline are currently under development with an expected completion deadline of 2015.  The gist of the program is to offer English language development for teachers and students (live and in-class for the U.S. and through an online teleconferencing system for overseas persons) in order to improve basic language and literature learning.  The target is to work with primary and secondary classrooms of low-cost schools, but it is not restricted to these locales.
